Wool itself has natural heat resistant properties, and when ZIRPRO treated becomes highly flame resistant. Even when washed or dry cleaned multiple times, this carpet will maintain its flame resistant standard, as long as the manufacturer?s washing and dry cleaning instructions are followed carefully. This rug is prone to charring with even small embers, as charring is the extinguishing process by which the wool reduces heat transfer and flame spread. Further, we do not recommend the use of this Hearth rug near coal stoves.
